How we turned an unused audio channel in juvenile detention into a new model of rehabilitation.

Showing young detainees their future has never sounded better

Futures is the world's first rehabilitative radio station inside juvenile detention. Using a dormant audio channel already installed in cells, classrooms and communal areas, Futures delivers stealth micro-therapies, 24/7 mentorship, emotional support and future pathways wrapped in the hip hop culture young detainees love.

Created in partnership with young detainees and Juvenile Justice, Futures is designed to feel like authentic entertainment rather than reform. It has already seen the highest detainee engagement rates of any Australian detention program, and has received government support to roll out nationally.

Futures programming embeds proven micro-therapeutic principles within aspirational hip hop programming.

Every touchpoint, from the in-centre posters to the good behaviour merch is designed to feel like a desirable hip hop brand.

Futures has been endorsed by government, Juvenile Justice and even ex-cons.

It has already become a highly effective and engaging form of reform in detention centres.
