How we built a global movement to recognise the Great Barrier Reef's lifetime of greatness.

Meet the first non-human nominee for a lifetime achievement award.

To break the media misinformation, and reframe the conversation around the Great Barrier Reef, we shifted it from being a victim of climate change to the world’s biggest (literally) and most important environmental champion.

An aerial shot of a coral reef in the ocean with a message overlaid: "A lifetime this great deserves a lifetime achievement award."

And to treat it accordingly, we found a loophole that allowed us to nominate for the world’s highest environmental honour - a United Nations’ Lifetime Achievement Award. The world approved.

We brought together First Nations spokespeople, marine scientists, schools, tourism bodies, and government like never before in support of our nomination.

Our official UN submission became the heart of our global campaign.
